Reiki Tuning Forks: What They Are and How To Use Them

Reiki sound therapy is a rather new energy healing modality. It combines traditional Reiki techniques and sound frequencies in order to enhance the body’s mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual recovery. Reiki tuning forks are generally used for this practice.

Tuning forks have been around for centuries. Many of us think that they have something to do with music, but they are actually more than that. They are still being used today to tune musical instruments, but they are also utilized in watches, speed guns, gyroscopes, hearing tests, and bone injury tests.

The reason why they’re used in energy healing is because they produce pure tones. These are tones set at their most fundamental frequencies. The vibrational energy produced by the tones are believed to bring forth balance to our overall wellness.

Sound Waves

Each tuning fork can only emit a single frequency at any given time. They are tuned at the factory and labeled as to the specific frequency they send out. Frequency is measured in Hertz, or Hz for short.

The Ancient Solfeggio Scale

Gregorian is a German band from the 90’s that popularized the Gregorian chant, a form of sacred song that’s typically heard in Roman Catholic churches. The band is known for their Gregorian chant rendition of chart-topping songs, such as Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, Losing My Religion by R.E.M., and Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day. Those who have heard Gregorian’s music more or less know what the Solfeggio Scale sounds like.

The Solfeggio Scale is a musical scale composed of 6 perfect tones. 3 tones were added later to complete the Pythagorean number, 9. It was discovered in the High Middle Ages (1000-1300 AD), and it was thought to be the music that created our Universe.

Practitioners who make use of Reiki tuning forks believe that aligning one’s self to the frequencies of the Solfeggio Scale will result in a deeper feeling of balance and healing, which eventually leads to good health.

The frequencies emitted by these tones were eventually integrated by energy healers into the chakra system. They believe that these specific sound waves go through the body and aid in removing obstructions from the pathways. The 9 frequencies and their chakra counterparts are listed below:

Chakra Frequencies and their Meaning

Now that the Solfeggio Scale frequencies and the chakras have been paired, let’s briefly examine how each one corresponds to a person’s frame of mind:

174 Hz – Soul Star

The soul star chakra may not be as popular as the 7 main ones, but this out-of-body chakra is plays an important role in a person’s well being. The soul star chakra is found just above the head (or the crown chakra). One of its tasks is to protect the aura from negative energy, similar to how a magnetic field protects the Earth from the harmful rays of the Sun. Using Reiki tuning forks to vibrate this sound frequency gives several benefits, such as better focus, improved emotional intelligence, and a more secure feeling. It is also regarded as a natural anesthetic, and thus an excellent pain reliever.

285 Hz – Earth Star

The earth star chakra is another inconspicuous chakra. It is an etheric chakra located below the feet. The earth star’s main task is to maintain a person’s feeling of groundedness. Being grounded means being authentic and unshakable. In addition, vibrating to the 285 Hz frequency leads to a heightened understanding of mother nature and a greater appreciation of her healing abilities. This frequency is useful in healing wounds and other weakened or damaged cells.

396 Hz – Root

The root chakra is like the foundation of a house or a building. It can withstand calamities if it was firmly built. This is true for our lives as well. Vibrating at this frequency wards off feelings of guilt and insecurity, as well as strengthen our will survive.

417 Hz – Sacral

The sacral chakra represents our passions and pleasures in life. It powers our creativity and sensuality. Vibrating at this frequency helps in healing whatever trauma has been experienced in the past, as well as suppress doubts that hinder success.

528 Hz – Solar Plexus

The solar plexus chakra represents our ego or self-worth. Vibrating at this frequency yields several positive effects, including achieving inner peace, conquering fears, and having more control over emotions.

639 Hz – Heart

The heart chakra is pretty self-explanatory. It represents love, compassion, and joy. Vibrating at this frequency allows for the strengthening of bonds between loved ones. It also improves communication.

741 Hz – Throat

The throat chakra represents our ability to turn thoughts into spoken words. It has a natural connection to the sacral chakra, but the throat chakra specifically deals with how those pursuits are manifested. The 741 Hz frequency is also great for detoxification. This means that it can cleanse the body of harmful toxins and prevent viral infections.

852 Hz – Third Eye

The third eye chakra represents perception or foresight. Vibrating at this frequency boosts one’s psychic abilities. This frequency is also useful in overcoming mental block, a common occurrence among writers.

963 Hz – Crown

The crown chakra is located at the top of our head and is associated with our higher consciousness. Vibrating at this frequency leads to transcendence – the ultimate realization of our role in the universe. This chakra is the most difficult to balance because it involves accepting the idea that letting go of the material things that we have become so accustomed to is okay. Most of us wouldn’t be able to live without those things.

How to Use Reiki Tuning Forks

Reiki tuning forks are used to vibrate at the frequencies and the chakras outlined above. Each tuning fork vibrates at a certain frequency, and the user only has to tap one with a mallet stick or a striker. Watch the video below from The Lune INNATE for a demonstration:

The tuning fork is then positioned on the corresponding part of the body where the frequency matches. For instance, the 963 Hz fork is positioned on top of the head to balance or restore the crown chakra.

What Tuning Forks Should I Buy?

Reiki tuning forks can be purchased individually, or as a set. In addition, there are tuning forks with weights on their tips. These are weighted tuning forks that vibrate more strongly. However, weights cannot be placed on high frequency (or short) forks due to space constraints. Below are three of the most popular ones available online:
